Two Bay Area sports icons shared a memorable moment at one of the summer's premier celebrity sporting events. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice were seen greeting one another during the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.
A video captured by KNBR showed the two all-time greats exchanging pleasantries as they competed in the celebrity golf tournament, which began Wednesday and runs through July 12.
The interaction brought together two athletes whose careers helped define different eras of Bay Area sports. Rice built his Hall of Fame career after the San Francisco 49ers selected him out of Mississippi Valley State in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft. Widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, Rice spent 15 seasons with the 49ers, helping the franchise capture three Super Bowl titles while earning Super Bowl XXIII MVP honors.
His dominance helped establish San Francisco as one of professional football's premier dynasties before he later finished his career with the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. Curry's impact on the Bay Area has been equally transformative on the hardwood. Since leading the Warriors to their first NBA championship in 40 years in 2015, Curry has helped usher in one of the NBA's greatest dynasties. Golden State followed that title by setting the league's single-season wins record before making five consecutive NBA Finals appearances between 2015 and 2019.
Alongside Kevin Durant, Curry won back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018 before guiding the Warriors to another NBA title in 2022, earning his first NBA Finals MVP award. Both athletes have become synonymous with excellence in Northern California, with Rice redefining the standard for NFL receivers and Curry revolutionizing basketball through his perimeter shooting.
