It's been a busy day for the Los Angeles Kings , who signed Corey Perry for his second tour of duty with the club after trading him last season to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with signing former Minnesota Wild forward Mats Zuccarello and former Nashville Predators forward Erik Haula .
And now, Kings general manager Ken Holland has locked up one of their key forwards to a new multi-year contract extension. The Kings have signed forward Scott Laughton to a three-year deal with a $3.5 million salary cap hit, keeping him with the club through the end of the 2028-29 NHL season.
Laughton was taken in the first round (20th overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2012 NHL Draft while he was with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, and he would eventually make his NHL debut in 2012-13, playing in a handful of games.
He would eventually become a regular in the NHL in the 2017-18 season, appearing in 81 games and scoring 10 goals with 10 assists. Eventually becoming an alternate captain for the Flyers, he would turn in a career performance in December 2024, registering a four-goal game as part of a win over the Detroit Red Wings .
But he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, and would play in 43 games with the Leafs in 2025-26 before being traded once again to the Kings for a conditional third round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
So far in 745 career NHL games, Laughton has scored 121 goals with 168 assists, while adding another six goals and six assists in 41 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
