Klay Thompson may not be having the success he envisioned at first when he signed with the Dallas Mavericks in 2024. He has gone from losing Luka Doncic to now getting stuck in a rebuild after the Mavs traded Anthony Davis at the recent trade deadline.
But while things have not turned out well on the basketball court, life has been a bed of roses outside of it. Thompson celebrated his 36th birthday last week and based on his latest Instagram post, he is still over the moon.
"Best birthday ever, thanks to my baby. I'm still on cloud East 99," he wrote on IG.
Birthday celebrations are usually parties and for celebrities like Klay, a big bash. But last February 8 was a whole day affair, thanks, of course, to Klay's baby-rapper Megan Thee Stallion , who prepared a day worth of activities for what she dubbed as "Klay Day."
The couple kicked off the celebration with a quiet 'me time' picnic on the beach, where they had brunch together, sitting on a blanket on the sands with a low table filled with fruits and pastries. Meg documented the romantic date, captioning it " the first half of KLAY DAY " and adding, "I can't wait for you to see your next surprise."
The next surprise was, of course, the big one, as Meg led Klay to a birthday bash where she gathered his friends and family, including his parents, Mychal and Julie.
To make the celebration more memorable for her boo, MTS invited Klay's favorite hip hop group, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, for a live performance. Krayzie, Layzie, Wish, and Flesh-and-Bone performed their hit songs "Thuggish, Ruggish Bone," "1st Of The Month and "Tha Crossroads" and the birthday boy had an absolute blast.
Klay and Megan have been a couple since July last year. Despite criticism, they have proven their doubters wrong, including Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, who infamously gave their relationship a six-week lifespan.
But not only have they defeated Shaq's timeline, but they continue to show that their relationship is for real. Kendrick Perkins once 'warned' Klay about dating a Texan woman, and it seems Big Perk is right.
"I'mma tell you something. Hey boy, I'm watching you. You got a different glow on your face. I saw you in the gym. I think he hit 70-plus straight 3's, 72 or something around their legs, feeling good and all that," Perk said . "Hey, boy, Texas women are different. I'm telling you straight up…Once you're there, you're there. You're stuck. That's the effect."
"Stuck" may have been the wrong word to use, but you get Big Perk's point. Many dismissed the Klay-Megan affair as a fling. But as they have proved, it's a real relationship between two people who are truly in love with one another.
What makes it even more work is that Klay's parents are all-in on "The Stallion." So yeah, the Mavs can suck for the rest of his Dallas contract and Thompson may not win that 5th championship. But it's trending that he may get a fifth ring, just not the basketball one.
