For the first time in 27 years, the New York Knicks are back in the NBA Finals. After a dominant run through the Eastern Conference, New York has secured a spot in the Finals. Now, they're waiting on the result of the Western Conference Finals to see who between the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder they will face in June.
With this being a historic achievement for the team, the Knicks are giving back to their community . Ian Begley reports that Madison Square Garden will be giving out a total of 500 tickets to their home games in Games 2 and 3 to underprivileged youth.
"MSG says the Knicks will donate at least 500 free tickets for NBA Finals home games to underprivileged Garden of Dreams Foundation youth," Begley reported. "Underserved New York families affiliated with GDF will receive from the team 250 tickets per home game – totaling at least 500 tickets across Games 3 and 4 – and 750 tickets if there is a Game 6."
After losing in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Knicks were hell-bent on getting their revenge. Their revenge campaign took a slight bump when they went down 1-2 to the Atlanta Hawks in the first round. Since then, though, New York has rattled off 11 straight wins, winning 4-2 against the Hawks then sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the following rounds to advance to the postseason.
The Knicks are winning in a variety of ways, too. They've had a few blowout wins in their bag, but they also orchestrated the largest fourth-quarter comeback in playoff history against the Cleveland Cavaliers. A well-rounded attack led by Jalen Brunson , as well as a smart defensive scheme utilizing their elite wing defenders, has been the reason for their success this postseason.
The Knicks are now preparing to get their first championship win since 1973. No matter who wins the WCF series, New York will be a heavy underdog. However, they've shown this postseason that they've been playing at a level much higher than their regular-season form. Can they pull it off and bring the Larry O'Brien back to New York?
