Doncic's ability to get buckets in many ways allows him to dominate opponents on a game-by-game basis. It's the main reason why he is well past 10,000 career points at age 26, showing he is on pace for historic numbers as long as he finds ways to stay on the court without injuries.
He's already racked up multiple 30-point games, 40-point displays and 50-point outburst. He even pulled off a remarkable performance of 73 points in January 2024 with the Dallas Mavericks .
It calls back to Kobe Bryant 's 81-point game, the most points any player scored in any game throughout the modern NBA. It's the closest anyone ever got to Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point milestone back in the 1960s, something that even the best scorers in league history have been unable to reach.
Doncic is taking part in the All-Star Weekend festivities as he attended Media Day as an All-Star starter. He took a question from former player DeMarcus Cousins , who brought up the idea of the Lakers star going for 100 points in a game . It was there where Doncic made his stance on the topic very clear, per reporter David Yapkowitz.

"I don't think so. Scoring 73 was a lot; felt like every shot went in. But scoring 100, it's just too much," Doncic said.

It's clear that Luka Doncic is fully aware of his elite skillset as a scorer. However, 100 points is still a tall task for his liking.
This season, Doncic has gotten comfortable throughout his second season with the Lakers and his first full campaign with them. He is averaging 32.8 points, 8.6 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game throughout 42 appearances. He is shooting 47.3% from the field, including 34.5% from beyond the arc, and 78.1% from the free-throw line.

Los Angeles has a 33-21 record on the season, sitting at fifth place in the Western Conference standings. They hold the tiebreaker advantage over the Minnesota Timberwolves and are above the Phoenix Suns by 1.5 games. However, they trail the Houston Rockets by 0.5 games and the Denver Nuggets by 1.5 games.
The Lakers remain on hiatus until the All-Star Weekend festivities come to a close. They will resume action at home when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. ET and the Boston Celtics on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
