LeBron James hints his relationship with Jaylen Brown suffered after Bronny James comments
LeBron James has hinted there may still be tension between him and Jaylen Brown after the Celtics star’s comments about his son Bronny last year.
The topic came up after Boston ’s 111-89 win over the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena, where Brown delivered a standout performance.
While discussing Brown’s season, LeBron referenced a moment from the previous summer that had attracted plenty of attention.
LeBron recalls Bronny remark from Summer League
James began by acknowledging Brown’s strong play and Boston’s impressive campaign, before referencing a viral moment from the 2024 NBA Summer League that resurfaced after the game.
“Our relationship has been pretty respectful. Besides the s**t he said about Bronny at Summer League. But other than that, we’ve been all right.”
He was referring to a clip from Las Vegas in which Brown told WNBA stars Angel Reese and Kysre Gondrezick that he didn’t think Bronny was a pro, and the footage quickly made the rounds on social media.
Asked whether they had moved past it, James replied: “We’ll be all right. I think he went on social media and said something about it. It’s all good. Bronny’s got a long way to go, but that’s another story.”
Brown later addressed his comments
After the Summer League clip went viral, Brown responded on social media, saying Bronny had the right support around him to succeed.
While the clarification did not completely end the discussion, James acknowledged it again during his postgame remarks.
On Sunday, Brown posted 32 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in the Celtics’ win. Payton Pritchard added 30 points off the bench as Boston controlled the game from start to finish.
Although James said their relationship remains respectful, his remarks indicated the moment has not been forgotten. The exchange added another layer to the ongoing Celtics-Lakers rivalry.
