LeBron James once broke a backboard during a one-on-one game with his son Bronny, recalling the moment as a mix of dominance and accident.
The story dates back to 2014, when Bronny was still a kid, and LeBron was in the middle of his prime years. Even in a casual setting, the competitive edge was clear.
What started as a simple driveway matchup quickly turned into something memorable. And it ended with a shattered backboard. LeBron recently revisited the moment, offering a light-hearted reflection.

Speaking in comments shared by Dave McMenamin , LeBron described how the moment unfolded.
"Yeah, we had a hoop in our driveway, and I drove around him and dunked it. I didn't mean to shatter the glass, but yeah, I shattered it," James recalled.
The play itself was routine for LeBron, but the result was anything but. The force of the dunk ended up breaking the backboard entirely.
It was a reminder of the physical dominance he had during that period. Even a casual game at home could turn intense. For Bronny, it became a moment he likely will not forget.
LeBron also looked back on how the game itself played out, making it clear who had the upper hand.
"Yeah, he made a couple of shots, but that's like Miami Bron. That's like invincible Bron. So, it's not like he was about to win.
"Yeah, I didn't mean to shatter that. I had to buy another one," James further added.
The comment highlighted both the competitive gap at the time and the playful tone of the memory. LeBron acknowledged Bronny's effort, but also pointed to the level he was operating at during his Miami years.
It also added a personal touch to their relationship. Moments like these show how their bond has been shaped through basketball.
Looking back, the story blends humour with nostalgia. It captures a time when LeBron was at his peak and Bronny was just starting his journey. And even in a simple driveway game, it turned into something unforgettable.
