Golden State Valkyries star Gabby Williams is out in Berlin representing France at the 2026 FIBA World Cup, and while she's leading her nation in their quest to dethrone Team USA, she's not doing it alone.
Alongside Williams is New York Liberty 's Marine Johannes , who's also doing her part to help France in their campaign. Their tandem led Les Bleues to a comfortable 99-53 win on opening day against Hungary.
Ahead of their game against South Korea on Sunday, the commentator called Williams and Johannes a "power couple."
"The power couple for Les Bleues," he said .
Both of them lived up to their nickname as they contributed 17 points each on course to their win against Hungary.
On the other hand, Seattle Storm 's Dominique Malonga was the biggest star of the contest with a double-double: 17 points and 10 assists.
"We still have a lot of things to work on": Gabby Williams in the hunt for something big for Team France
Despite a strong outing against Hungary on opening day, France's Gabby Williams believes they still have a lot to offer for Les Bleus.
After the win, Williams spoke to the reporters and said, "I think our effort was good, but we still have a lot of things to work on. I am happy we didn't play our perfect match, even if you get a lot of points. (translated)"

With high expectations come huge results, which was the case for Team France after another dominant win, this time against South Korea in their second game, before wrapping up the group stage with a commanding 111-56 win against Nigeria.
A clean sweep in the group meant a straight passage to the quarterfinals for Williams and Team France, who are now waiting for the winner of the match between Puerto Rico and the second-placed team in Group D, which is still being contested by Italy, China, and possibly Czechia, if they could pull off a miracle against Team USA in their final group stage match.
For now, Williams and her compatriots will have a few days' rest before they get back in action on Thursday.
