The Golden State Valkyries stand on the precipice of sports history, sitting just one victory away from capturing the 2026 WNBA championship. Holding a commanding 3–2 series lead following a hard-fought 64–55 win over the Atlanta Dream in Game 5, the second-year franchise is just a successful 40 minutes away from hoisting the trophy.

The Golden State Valkyries are on the cusp of writing basketball history. In just their second year of existence, the franchise is now one win away from capturing its first-ever WNBA championship after a gritty 64-55 victory in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals on Monday sent celebrities and fans into a frenzy.

The Golden State Valkyries are now just one step away from making history. After dropping Game 2 in front of their home crowd, they got their revenge by beating the Atlanta Dream on their home floor in Game 4 before returning to Chase Center to secure a Game 5 win and take a 3-2 series lead.

One would expect a team in the 2026 WNBA Finals to have a couple of players on the All-WNBA First Team, right? Or at least on the Second Team? As it turns out, we would be wrong: not one name from the Golden State Valkyries squad appeared on either All-WNBA team list. No, not even franchise cornerstone Gabby Williams.

Gabby Williams said she “didn’t like” who she was in Game 3 and responded by setting the tone as Golden State tied the WNBA Finals 2-2.

Golden State held Atlanta to 62 points and forced 18 turnovers to win Game 4, even the WNBA Finals at 2-2 and guarantee a historic Game 6.
