The woes for the New York Mets continue, as not only does the franchise own one of the worst records in MLB, but Kodai Senga is heading to the injured list on Tuesday. With this move, New York's starting rotation takes another big hit within the first 28 games of the regular season.
Reports indicate that the 33-year-old right-hander is on the 15-day IL with inflammation in his spine , specifically in the "lumbar," according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The Mets recalled right-handed starter Christian Scott from Triple-A Syracuse.
" Kodai Senga goes on IL with lumbar spine inflammation, Mets announce," reported Heyman. "Christian Scott recalled."
It's been a rough go for Senga this season after he looked great in his first three years in MLB. Through 20 innings pitched this campaign, the four-year veteran owns a 9.00 ERA and 1.950 WHIP while totaling 23 strikeouts. He also leads all of MLB with four losses in five starts, along with zero wins.
Scott seems to be the one who will replace Senga in the Mets' starting rotation for now. Unfortunately, His first and only outing in 2026 didn't go all that well. He was pulled after 1.1 innings, after recording just one strikeout and allowing five walks and one earned run in New York's 10-8 win over the Minnesota Twins .
Clay Holmes will get the start in Tuesday's contest against the Washington Nationals , which is the first of a three-game series. That means Scott could be named the starter for the Mets on Wednesday or Thursday against the Nationals.
