PITTSBURGH —New Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. said he was very excited to learn that Pittsburgh was a possibility in trade talks, especially after talking to Mike McCarthy about the way he'd fit into the offense.
"I was really making a push to try to get here," Pittman said during his introductory press conference at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Friday.
Pittman believe he fits the mentality the Steelers want. He's willing to do whatever it takes to contribute to the team.
"It got me fired up. I feel like Pittsburgh is my style of football. That tough, smashmouth, gritty, I think I just fit in perfectly here," he said.
Pittman is also stoked about the possibility of playing with four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers :
"Whenever you have a chance to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback, you take that," he said. They've never thrown together, however.
Pittman knows Rodgers through training at the same facility as him in Southern California. They've never thrown together, however.
"Just knowing Rodgers, he loves football, and he's going to consider it," he said.

If Colts quarterback Daniel Jones ' sentiment is any indication, the Steelers have themselves a find in Pittman , who was a second-round pick (No. 34 overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft after starring at USC.
"Bummed to see Pittman go," Jones said earlier this week. "He was a tremendous leader, a great player, extremely productive and a guy you can count on. As tough as they come, always being out there. Wish him the best. I know he'll crush it with the Steelers. They're lucky to have him."
The Steelers are hoping Pittman, 28, will be an upgrade from what they had behind DK Metcalf last season. No Pittsburgh wideout other than Metcalf had more than 375 yards. The mix of Adam Thielen , Marquez Valdes-Scantling , Scotty Miller and Roman Wilson wasn't as effective as the Steelers would've liked.
Out of those receivers, only Wilson remains, but his role in the team's offense next fall is currently unclear.
Pittman, meanwhile, posted 80 grabs for 784 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds, he should be another physical presence in the Steelers' passing game.
