MLB rumors: Insider says Alex Cora could be managing again in ‘a week’ after Red Sox firing appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
Alex Cora ’s firing from the Boston Red Sox is a massive surprise, especially after the team bounced back with a 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon. Cora spoke glowingly about his team after the game , which makes the timing of the decision even more surprising. While the manager’s time with the Red Sox didn’t end on the best note, there will still be a ton of interest from teams , according to Bob Nightengale via X, formerly Twitter.
“Alex Cora was not even halfway through his 3-year, $21.75 million contract. He will be managing again within a week if he chooses,” Nightengale predicted.
The list of teams looking for managers within a week isn’t too large, but an eager management team may make a move to grab Cora before he is picked up. Another struggling team, the New York Mets , feels like one that could benefit from moving in a different direction and bringing in someone with Cora’s pedigree.
Another prestigious team, the Philadelphia Phillies , is also struggling early this season, actually sitting lower than the Mets in the NL East. Of course, it’d be a bit of an awkward reunion, but the Houston Astros are also struggling this season. Cora served as the bench coach during the team’s sign-stealing scandal in 2017 before taking the Red Sox job, and did have some involvement.
Cora is a three-time World Series champion, winning one as a player with the Red Sox, one as a bench coach with the Astros, and again as a manager in his first year in charge of the team. If there’s one manager who could make Nightengale’s prediction true, it’s Alex Cora.
