MLB rumors: Jeff Passan urges Yankees to make blockbuster Astros trade, but not for Yordan Alvarez appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The New York Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009. At 16 years, the streak is approaching the longest in Yankees history between World Series titles. If the team is going to break their drought, the Yankees are going to need to make some moves .
The Yankees could go after a pitcher like Tarik Skubal , but Jeff Passan of ESPN thinks the team needs to go after a member of the Houston Astros , and it is not Yordan Alvarez .
"If anyone doesn't need Skubal, it's the Yankees. And yet the moment Skubal officially becomes available, the Yankees will gauge the cost, because even if you don't need something, that doesn't mean you don't want it," Passan wrote. "In an ideal world, New York is training its focus on a third baseman (Paredes is by far the best option)."
The Yanks need help at third base. Ryan McMahon has been the primary third baseman so far this year, but has not produced. He is hitting just .203 with six home runs and 19 RBIs. Meanwhile, Amed Rosario is hitting just .261 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. The use of those two at third is not giving enough production for the team.
Isaac Paredes is having a slightly down year for his standards, but is still hitting .238 with a .332 on-base percentage. He also has seven home runs and 27 RBIs. Further, his power sets up perfectly for Yankee Stadium, setting up as a pull hitter on the short porch. It would be a difficult move for the Yankees to make, considering Paredes is a controllable asset for the Astros.
Still, grabbing an upgrade both offensively and defensively at third base may be worth the cost.
The Yankees are 36-25 on the season , which places them in second in the AL East. They finish their series with the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday afternoon.
