Olympiacos have made a surprise coup on Aston Villa as they reached a verbal agreement with the Premier League side to sign Leon Bailey on a permanent transfer soon, per a report by Fabrizio Romano.
Romano posted his trademark 'Here We Go' on the news that Bailey has left Aston Villa for the Greek city of Piraeus to complete his medicals ahead of officially signing a contract with Olympiacos. This was a surprise deal, in fact, as there were negligible earlier reports linking the Jamaican international to a move to the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium during the summer transfer window. However, Olympiacos president Evangelos Marinakis has struck in the nick of time to seal the deal for the 29-year-old winger.

The Red and Whites were locked in a pursuit of Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas for quite some time now, but talks were eventually stalled due to a valuation difference of €3 million between the two sides. The Swiss international was expected to be key to unlocking the Andalusians' new summer signings. Bailey was quoted for a loan deal by Sevilla, and had Vargas' deal gone through with Olympiacos, he would have joined the Nervionenses.
Bailey is set to sign a contract until the summer of 2029 with Olympiacos as soon as he completes his medical examinations in Athens. Aston Villa have given him the green light to proceed with the transfer procedure, as there is an agreement in principle with the Greek giants.
The news of this deal comes after Olympiacos had completed the high-profile signing of Gustavo Puerta from Spanish club Racing de Santander. The Colombian midfielder joined head coach José Luis Mendilibar's fold after Marinakis decided to pay his entire €20 million release clause to register him as an official Olympiacos player. Many reports surfaced claiming that the Greek business tycoon would finance his acquisition through Nottingham Forest, and then loan him to the Piraeus club, but those were laid to rest when he directly arrived in Greece to sign his new deal. Puerta's signing became the most expensive one in Greek club football history.
Meanwhile, Golden Boy Web 2025 winner and former UEFA Youth League champion Christos Mouzakitis has left Olympiacos to sign for Premier League side Hull City on a permanent transfer. The Tigers officially announced his arrival as they sealed their second player from the Greek outfit following the transfer of Konstantinos Tzolakis earlier this summer.
