Falling 11-3 to the New York Yankees on Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles have now lost six of their last eight games. Star catcher Adley Rutschman is well aware of Baltimore’s skid.
As the Orioles close out their series with the Yankees, Rutschman is urging his team to put their best foot forward. While their 15-19 record isn’t the prettiest, the catcher knows Baltimore has a lot more to offer , via Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner.
“It’s a crucial point, and I think our guys are up to the challenge,” Rutschman said.
Rutschman went 0-for-4 on Sunday, showing he has some improvement to make himself. Still, he has been one of the best Orioles hitters this season, when healthy . Heading into Sunday’s game, the catcher was hitting .313 with four home runs and 17 RBIs through his first 18 games of the year. Rutschman leads Baltimore in batting average, ranks third in RBIs and fifth in home runs. The franchise will continue relying on him as a crucial run producer.
As for the Orioles at large, the Orioles rank 12th in runs scored with 154. However, they also have the seventh-most strikeouts with 313 while their .232 batting average is sixth-lowest. On the flip side, Baltimore ranks 27th in batting average with a 4.76 clip. Clearly, there is room for improvement.
Especially playing in the daunted AL East, Rutschman and company know how crucial each matchup is. They need to find their footing sooner rather than later to avoid getting lost in the pack. Rutschman at least isn’t shying away from the rut and is doing everything in his power to bring Baltimore back.
