The Florida Panthers could be a team that is active during free agency, but before then, they made a move with the Anaheim Ducks , acquiring the rights to Radko Gudas in exchange for the rights to A.J. Greer . Gudas and Greer were pending unrestricted free agents.
There was an expectation that Greer would get an offer from the Ducks, while Gudas liked how he would fit with the Panthers.
"Radko Gudas captained our club with heart and soul over the last two seasons while making a great impact in our community," Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement . "We offer our thanks and wish him great success going forward. We hope to sign A.J. to a contract and look forward to what he can bring to our club."
Gudas finished with two goals, 13 points and 67 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Ducks last season. He only played in one playoff game because of injury.
As for Greer, he had 17 goals and 32 points in 78 games with the Panthers last season. He was key for the Panthers two seasons ago, as he recorded two goals and three points in 16 playoff games, helping the team win their second of back-to-back Stanley Cup championships.
This trade could be a win-win for both sides, and it will be interesting to see how they fit in their respective roles. It could also just be the beginning for both teams as they try to improve their teams over the next few months of the offseason.
