FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots left Baltimore winners but also hurting.
At this time of year, every NFL team is dealing with injuries. What Mike Vrabel's team went through on Sunday night, however, was different. The Patriots saw nine players suffer injuries in their win over the Ravens. On Tuesday, Vrabel revealed the team actually had 10 injuries after the victory.
The Patriots coach said starting left guard Jared Wilson suffered a concussion in Baltimore. That injury wasn't known until Tuesday. He joins running back TreVeyon Henderson and receiver Kayshon Boutte in the NFL's concussion protocol.
"I would say that those are the guys you are most conscious of, just from a mental well-being and not getting frustrated about how they feel," Vrabel said. "I tell everybody the same thing: just be honest about how you're feeling, talk to the doctors, talk to the trainer. We do an evaluation every day. We do a symptom score. Those are the ones you want to focus on. The guys that have an ankle or whatever it might be, they're going to be OK. It's sometimes any of these things with concussions react differently, and there's no pre-described amount of time they're going to be out."
The Patriots also saw defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga (foot), defensive tackle Joshua Farmer (hamstring), right tackle Morgan Moses (knee), backup tackle Thayer Munford (knee), cornerback Carlton Davis (undisclosed), cornerback Charles Woods (ankle), and receiver DeMario Douglas (hamstring) suffer injuries.
"We'll figure out where things are later in the week and get everybody treatment," Vrabel said. "We got back late, so today will be a good opportunity just to see a little bit of activity, a walkthrough to get guys up moving around."
With a laundry list of injuries, here's a look at what the Patriots' depth looks like at their ailing positions:
Wide receiver
Injuries: Kayshon Boutte (concussion), DeMario Douglas (hamstring)
The Patriots have Stefon Diggs , Mack Hollins , Kyle Williams , and Efton Chism III on their active roster. Chism could be in line for the most playing time he's seen this season. The team also has receivers John Jiles and Jeremiah Webb on the practice squad.
Offensive line
Injuries: Jared Wilson (concussion), Morgan Moses (knee), Thayer Munford (knee)
Ben Brown will likely fill in for Wilson at left guard. It would be his third start of the season. Both Moses and Munford returned to action in Baltimore after briefly leaving the game. The next tackle in line for the Patriots is rookie Marcus Bryant . The top interior backup would be Caedan Wallace . The Patriots have options on the practice squad with center Brenden Jaimes , guard Mehki Butler, tackle Sebastian Gutierrez , and guard Andrew Rupcich .
Running back
Injuries: TreVeyon Henderson (concussion)
The Patriots are thin here after Terrell Jennings was placed on the injured reserve due to a concussion. The team has two backs on the active roster with Rhamondre Stevenson and D'Ernest Johnson. The Patriots have one running back on the practice squad, Jashaun Corbin , with veteran Craig Reynolds on the practice squad injured reserve.
Defensive tackle
Injuries: Khyiris Tonga (foot), Joshua Farmer (hamstring)
The Patriots are hurting here, but could be getting Milton Williams back , who will return to practice and is eligible to come off the injured reserve and play on Sunday. Christian Barmore was also limited last week with a knee injury. The Patriots also have Cory Durden and Eric Gregory on the 53-man roster. They have Joshua Farms, Leonard Taylor III , and Fabien Lovett Sr. on the practice squad.
Cornerback
Injuries: Carlton Davis (hip), Marcus Jones (knee), Charles Woods (ankle)
The Patriots are also thin here. Davis suffered an injury at the end of the game on Sunday after being limited with a hip injury. Jones played a season-low 19 defensive snaps after being limited with a knee injury. Then, Woods suffered an ankle injury and left Baltimore wearing a protective boot. Along with starter Christian Gonzalez , the Patriots have backup Miles Battle on the active roster. They also have Kobee Minor and Brandon Crossley on the practice squad.
