FOXBOROUGH – The rise of Drake Maye continues.
On Tuesday, the NFL released the 2025 Pro Bowl Games rosters. The Patriots had two players selected, with Maye making the roster in the AFC with quarterbacks Josh Allen and Justin Herbert . The other player selected is cornerback Christian Gonzalez , who earns Pro Bowl honors for the first time in his NFL career.
This marks the second Pro Bowl for Maye, but the first time he’s been selected as a non-alternate. Last year, as a rookie, the quarterback made the team as an alternate. This year, there was little doubt that the Patriots quarterback would earn the honor.
Maye joins Patriots Hall of Famers Mike Haynes (five straight) and Curtis Martin (two straight) as the only players in franchise history to start their Patriots careers with at least two Pro Bowl selections.
With two games left in the 2025 season, Maye ranks fourth in the NFL in passing yards (3,947) and is tied for fifth in passing touchdowns. He’s also first in completion percentage (70.9) and third in passer rating (108.5).
Maye’s also been the best player on the Patriots roster as the franchise sits with a 12-3 record after two 4-win seasons in a row. The Patriots clinched a spot in the playoffs with their win in Baltimore on Sunday.
Maye is also part of the NFL’s MVP conversation and among the favorites with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford . Now he becomes the fourth quarterback in NFL history to begin his career with consecutive Pro Bowl bids, joining Andrew Luck (three straight), Russell Wilson (four straight), and Dan Marino (five straight).
For Gonzalez, this marks his first NFL Pro Bowl after he was snubbed from the roster last year. The No. 1 cornerback was elite in 2024, but didn’t earn a Pro Bowl nod. However, Gonzalez was honored by making the Second-team All-Pro squad.
This year, Gonzalez makes the roster along with Houston ’s Derek Stingley Jr. , Denver ’s Pat Surtain II, and Cleveland ’s Denzel Ward .
The third-year cornerback missed the first three games of this season due to a hamstring injury. In 12 games, Gonzalez has 61 tackles and 10 pass breakups. This season, Gonzalez has allowed 39.6% of his targets to be caught. Opposing quarterbacks have a 67.8 passer rating when targeting the Patriots’ No. 1 cornerback in coverage.
Gonzalez is the first Patriots defensive back to earn a Pro Bowl bid since J.C. Jackson in 2021.
The 2026 Pro Bowl will be played on Feb. 3, 2026, in San Francisco .
