Apparently the Patriots had quite a flight home after their visit to the White House in 2015.

Following their Super Bowl XLIX victory, President Obama invited the Patriots for a celebration and the event went off without a hitch. It was the trip home when things got dicey, according to Brandon Bolden . The former Patriots running back relayed the story on Julian Edelman’s “Games With Names” podcast this week.

With their airplane dealing with a mechanical issue, Bolden said he and Steve Belichick went to find some food and a drink. They stumbled upon a quiet airport bar with just one bartender working and were happy, but they weren’t alone for long.

“So as we’re eating, here come the assistant defensive coaches,“ Bolden said. ”Phone comes out, and here comes all the running backs. Here comes the receivers. Here’s the d-line. Here’s Matty (Patricia) and that whole crew.”

Eventually, there was a problem: The bar ran out of alcohol. Bolden said the lone bartender had a solution.

“When they ran out of liquor, she didn’t bat an eye,” Bolden said. “She didn’t say anything. All she said was, ‘I’ve gotta run down to the duty free shop and I’m going to grab some more liquor and I’ll come back.’ It was like, well grab a bunch. So she came back with like two boxes of liquor. Boom, she puts that up. We ran through both boxes.”

When the plane was ready and it was time to settle up, all of the Patriots were on one massive tab.

“That girl pulled that receipt out about this long,” Bolden said gesturing over his head, “and I saw four zeros. I said, ‘Who’s about to pay for all this?’”

Following a White House visit for a Super Bowl win, the assistant coaches were ready to pick up the massive tab, and Bolden said Patricia and defensive line coach Brendan Daly split the bill.

Then another adventure started.

“We get on the plane and that’s when all that fun that we just had and all that camaraderie, that’s when that (expletive) just went downhill,” Bolden said. “Because now this coach is throwing up, this person is passing out, we can’t find this guy. It was just a (expletive) show — but that was by far the best plane trip we’ve ever taken.”
