Philadelphia Phillies star closer Jhoan Duran has been limited to only seven appearances in 2026 due to a left oblique strain. The good news is that Duran is close to returning from the injury . In fact, he is expected to return this week according to MLB.com.

He reportedly reached 100 MPH with his fastball in a recent bullpen session. A rehab assignment may not even be necessary for the right-handed reliever, according to the MLB.com report.

The Phillies endured a miserable start to the season. They have played better in recent action, but Philadelphia is still only 14-20 and in fourth place in the National League East standings. Duran's return from injury will only help matters, though.

The 28-year-old star closer pitched to a stellar 1.35 ERA in his seven outings while saving five games before landing on the IL earlier this year. In 2025, Duran saved a total of 32 games between his time with the Minnesota Twins and the Phillies. He has become one of the best closers in the entire sport without question.

Assuming no setbacks occur, fans could get to watch Jhoan Duran pitch in the 9th inning of Phillies games sooner rather than later.

The Phillies currently lead their four-game series with the Marlins in Miami 2-1. The final contest of the series is scheduled for Monday night at 6:40 PM EST. The Phillies will then host the Athletics for three games and the Rockies for three games. Duran could potentially return from injury during either the Athletics or Rockies series in Philadelphia.
