- Phillies Place Tanner Banks on Injured List Before Reds Game, Recall Chase Shugart
The Philadelphia Phillies will be without left-handed reliever Tanner Banks after placing the 34-year-old on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain before Thursday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds . In a corresponding move, Philadelphia recalled right-handed pitcher Chase Shugart from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, giving the bullpen another arm ahead of the series opener.
Banks has been a regular part of the Phillies' relief corps this season, appearing in 26 games while posting a 4.97 ERA with 34 strikeouts across 29 innings.

The veteran debuted with the Chicago White Sox in 2022 before joining Philadelphia and has served as one of the club's left-handed bullpen options.
The Phillies did not provide a timetable for Banks' return beyond announcing the forearm strain. The club also did not release additional details about the severity of the injury, leaving his recovery timeline uncertain until further medical updates are available.
Shugart returns to the major league roster after his latest stint with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The right-hander gives manager Rob Thomson another available bullpen option as Philadelphia adjusts to Banks' absence heading into an important stretch of the schedule.

Although the move comes just before the matchup with Cincinnati, the Phillies will now rely on the rest of their relief unit to cover the innings Banks would have handled. The organization will likely continue evaluating his condition before determining the next steps in his recovery.
Philadelphia's bullpen depth will be tested while Banks remains sidelined, but the immediate focus shifts to Shugart's return and how the relief corps responds as the Phillies continue their series against the Reds.
