The Los Angeles Angels earned a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. It was a victory that saw Mike Trout and Zach Neto (as well as Jorge Soler) hit home runs to help lead L.A. to the win. However, it turns out Trout and Neto may have given the team some good luck thanks to some Pokémon cards.
Reports indicate that Neto, who is 25 years old, opened up packs of Pokémon cards with Trout to help pull himself out of his slump , according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. In doing so, Trout informed Neto that unboxing the cards would lead to home runs against the White Sox. Lo and behold, he was right.
"Zach Neto said he got out of his slump after opening Pokémon cards with Mike Trout pregame to get his mind off things," reported Bollinger. "He packed a Charizard card, and Trout told him the box of cards would bring them homers. And they both went deep tonight, and Trout hugged Neto after his homer."
Neto went yard for the sixth time this season, while the Angels' 34-year-old outfielder hit his 11th home run on the campaign. After they each played a key role in helping L.A. earn its 14th win of the season, perhaps Zach Neto and Mike Trout should continue opening packs of Pokémon cards before each game.
The two will have a chance to carry the momentum over on Wednesday, as the Angels are scheduled to take on the White Sox again in the third contest of the three-game series. A win for Los Angeles would be the first time the club won a series since mid-April, when they went 2-1 against the New York Yankees.
