The Los Angeles Rams are insisting there's no tensions between quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Ty Simpson . LA grabbing the Alabama star No. 13 overall in the NFL Draft fired off shockwaves and sparked criticism for the Rams . Especially in taking a QB first following Stafford's first Most Valuable Player run.
But Stafford revealed a light-hearted story involving he and Simpson's building relationship. Which he shared via The Pat McAfee Show Wednesday.
"I'm trying to share as much knowledge as I can. I sent him a text after he got drafted and said, 'Really enjoyed watching you play at Alabama, you were just in the wrong jersey,'" Stafford said.
Clearly Stafford is ribbing Simpson as a Georgia Bulldogs great. College football fans know all about the Alabama-Georgia Southeastern Conference rivalry that includes meeting in the national title game twice.
Simpson never led the Crimson Tide to the national championship, despite being one of the final Nick Saban recruits. But he rose to day one selection in thriving under Saban's successor Kalen DeBoer.
Again, Los Angeles choosing Simpson over wide receiver or offensive lineman help at No. 13 drew out intense reactions. But Stafford downplayed the criticism, saying he's gotten to know Simpson.
"I'm with him in the meeting room everyday and on the practice field. I'm trying to share as much knowledge as I can with Ty Simpson," Stafford said.
The reigning 2025 MVP adds how Simpson has become "a sponge" in absorbing the Rams' offense . He's already competing in his first OTAs this month.
