The 2026 NFL Draft is now less than two weeks away. The Miami Dolphins are among the league leaders in resources.

And they’ve just got a bit of good news amid their quest to make the most of the event. General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and company are going to have every opportunity to pour into their team however they see fit. But a report this week from NFL insider Jordan Schultz reveals that the Dolphins’ flexibility could readily go beyond just making picks.

The Miami Dolphins’ current strength as a franchise lies in their flexibility. The team is loaded with draft capital, has massive spending power in 2027, and is aligned to quickly shape this roster in the vision of Sullivan. But the current strength of Miami’s draft resources is rooted in 2026. Teams that aim to build through the draft often do so by building a future stockpile, too.

And that’s where the report from Jordan Schultz comes into play. If the first round of this year’s NFL Draft becomes a trade-heavy experience, Miami will be squarely in the action zone.

Could the Dolphins parlay a trade down from No. 11 overall to pick up some much needed future draft capital in 2027? They may need to drop down a sizable distance in order to facilitate future resources, but it should be considered absolutely in play depending on who is waiting on the board for the Dolphins when they first come on the clock.

The other half of Shultz’s report is good news for Miami, too.

“Many teams play to pursue extra Day 2 and early Day 3 picks, per league sources.” You know who has a ton of extra Day 2 picks? That’s right. The Miami Dolphins. Now maybe the Dolphins are team that’s keen on adding even more picks in the middle rounds of this year’s NFL Draft. If that is true, they’ll have sellers. And if they want to sell for future assets, they’ll have buyers. It’s a great year to start with surplus resources and have flexibility in your plan.

Miami has both. The question now is how they’ll try to use it to their advantage.
