MLB announced the rosters for the MLB All-Star Game on July 4. Whenever All-Star rosters are announced, there is sure to be a list of snubs. Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras was seen as potentially the biggest snub of them all.
Now, Contreras is a snub no more, according to a release from MLB.
" Willson Contreras has been named to the American League All-Star team! He replaces Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the roster. Nick Kurtz will start at first base for the AL," MLB posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had been elected as a starter and was making his sixth All-Star Game appearance. Still, due to an injury in his lower back, he will not be playing in the game in order to rest. Nick Kurtz had the most votes on the Player Ballot, which gives him the nod to be the starting first baseman for the American League. It is the first all-star selection for Kurtz.
While the Red Sox are having a bad year , sitting in last place in the American League East, Contreras has had a season worth of being named an All-Star. He is hitting .284 with a .354 on-base percentage and a .920 OPS. Further, he has 20 home runs and 59 RBIs already this season. His home run total is already the most he has had since 2022, when he hit 22 home runs, and he will likely eclipse his career high of 24 from 2019. This will be the fourth time that Contreras has been named an All-Star.
The MLB All-Star game takes place on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia .
