The Boston Red Sox have been a disaster thus far on the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting in last place in the AL East with a record of 12-18. The struggles recently prompted the team to fire manager Alex Cora as they search for answers to improve their season.
The team did recently pick up a dominant 17-1 win on the road against the Baltimore Orioles in what was an excellent start for pitcher Garrett Crochet , but now, the team has gotten some bad news on the injury front regarding the star.
"The Red Sox place ace LHP Garrett Crochet on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation. Crochet pitched 6 shutout innings in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles in a 17-1 victory, which was Alex Cora's final game before being dismissed," reported Bob Nightengale of USA Today on X, formerly Twitter.
Crochet certainly didn't seem to show any signs of ailment in his shoulder during his start against the Orioles, which was the last time he took the field.
Heading into this season, the Red Sox's pitching staff was largely thought to be the biggest strength on the team, and Crochet has largely held up his end of the bargain this year, despite the struggles of the team as a whole. Boston can ill afford to lose the star for an extended period of time as they look to dig themselves out of their current hole.
The Red Sox will next take the field on Wednesday for a road game against the reigning AL champion Toronto Blue Jays .
