The Reds made it official that Trevino will be placed on a rehab assignment with High-A Dayton, per the Cincinnati Reds on X, formerly Twitter. Trevino had been on the 10-day injured list since April 8 due to a thoracic spine strain. He's only played in three games and is 1-for-11 at the plate.
Trevino is expected to play five innings on Friday when Dayton faces the South Bend Cubs, per MLB.com. Reds' pitcher Nick Lodolo will throw four innings on Sunday for Dayton as he recovers from blisters on his left index finger.
Meanwhile, pitchers Caleb Ferguson and Austin Greene remain on the injured list. Ferguson is out with an oblique strain and is expected to return in May. Greene is recovering from right elbow surgery in March and is expected to return in July.
Since Trevino's been out, Tyler Stephenson has taken over as the Reds' starting catcher.
