Philip Rivers is back.
The Colts are signing the quarterback to their practice squad, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday . Rivers worked out for Indianapolis on Monday night.
The move comes in the midst of quarterback woes for the Colts .
Daniel Jones tore his Achilles on Sunday , Anthony Richardson remains on injured reserve with a fractured orbital bone and backup Riley Leonard is dealing with a knee injury.
Brett Rypien is also on their practice squad.
Rivers retired after the 2020 season — his lone campaign playing for the Colts. The 44-year-old was one of the 26 modern-era semifinalists for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.
Should Rivers be added to the Colts’ active roster, his Hall of Fame clock will reset and he will need to wait five more years for potential election.
The Colts last made the playoffs in 2020 with Rivers as their quarterback. Now at 8-5, they’re holding onto a playoff spot and it’s possible Rivers helps get them there.
