See where Texas Tech football finished in the US LBM Coaches Poll

The Texas Tech football team , coming off a historic season, finished No. 7 in the final US LBM Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The Red Raiders won 12 games, the Big 12 championship and made the College Football Playoff , all firsts for the program.

CFP champion Indiana (16-0) and its title-game opponent Miami (Fla.) (13-3) are the top two in the coaches poll , and CFP semifinalists Ole Miss (13-2) and Oregon (13-2) are No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Georgia (12-2) and Ohio State (12-2) are the other two teams ahead of Tech.

Rounding out the top 10 are Texas A&M (11-2), Alabama (11-4) and Oklahoma (10-3).

Other Big 12 teams in the final ranking are No. 12 Brigham Young (12-2), No. 14 Utah (11-2) and No. 19 Houston (10-3).

Tech also finished No. 7 in The Associated Press Top 25 final poll. Tech's previous highest finish in the polls was No. 11 in 1938 and 1973, teams whose final records were 10-1 and 11-1, respectively. The Red Raiders finished No. 12 in 1953 and 2008, teams whose final records were 11-1 and 11-2, respectively.

Tech beat Brigham Young 34-7 in the Big 12 championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington and lost to Oregon 23-0 in the Orange Bowl, a CFP quarterfinal.

Tech opens the 2026 season hosting Abilene Christian on Sept. 5 and has other non-conference games Sept. 12 at Oregon State and Sept. 26 at home against Sam Houston State.

The Big 12 is expected to announce dates for conference games this week.
