The Pittsburgh Steelers have made significant investments in the cornerback position already this offseason, and every indication is that they aren't done adding to that group yet, either, as the Steelers hosted Washington cornerback Tacario Davis for one of their 30-pre draft visits on Friday.
Davis is the second cornerback from the University of Washington alone that the Steelers have hosted for a pre-draft visit. His teammate, Ephesians Prysock, came to the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex earlier this month.
Davis, just like Prysock, is another long-limbed outside cornerback in the mold of Steelers starter Joey Porter Jr. The 6-foot-3 3/4, 194-pound Davis played just one season at Washington after transferring from Arizona , where he played three seasons.
After appearing in just five games as a true freshman with the Wildcats in 2022, Davis emerged as a stater in 2023, becoming a starter as a sophomore and earning an All-Pac 12 recognition, thanks to 15 passes defended. In 2024, he returned, again starting for Arizona and setting a career high with 44 tackles, and was again an all-conference selection.
In 2025, Davis entered the transfer portal, following former Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch to Washington. He was an immediate starter for the Huskies, but multiple injuries limited his effectiveness in his senior season. He suffered a rib injury while making a diving interception early in the season, and then a severe hamstring injury cost him the end of the season. In seven games, he finished with 19 tackles, one for a loss, two interceptions and three passes defended.
The Steelers have extensively scouted Washington over the last few years, selecting tackle Troy Fautanu in 2024 and linebacker Carson Bruener in 2025, but they missed an opportunity to more extensively scout Davis when the hamstring injury caused him to pull out of the Senior Bowl.
He recovered in time to perform well at the 2026 NFL Combine, running a 4.41-second 40-yard dash and posting a 37-inch vertical and a 10-foot-3 broad jump for an overall 9.36 Relative Athletic Score out of 10.
Davis is the No. 121 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, with his stock rising since his NFL combine performance.
The Steelers re-signed Asante Samuel Jr. , and brought in Jamel Dean to go along with returners Porter, Jalen Ramsey and Brandin Echols at cornerback this offseason, so they don't have a pressing need for 2026 at the position, but they have still shown interest in multiple cornerbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft class.
