Stephen A. Smith and Jaylen Brown are engaged in a mini-fued over Brown’s recent actions following the Celtics playoff series loss to the Philadelphia 76ers . Brown has been critical of the officiating that occurred in Game 7 of the 76ers series, among other topics. This drew the attention of Stephen A. Smith, who believes that Brown should “be quiet”.
“The first order of business is that he needs to be quiet before he gets traded,” Smith said on Thursday’s editon of First Take .
Brown was quick to fire back, taking to his X account and saying, “I’ll ‘be quiet’ / stop streaming if you ‘be quiet’ and retire let’s give the people what they want.”
Smith responded on his own X account, reiterating points he made on First Take .
“Bro, I got love for you so I’m not going to even go there. Folks are looking out for you and you don’t even realize it. Here you are making this kind of noise and it hasn’t even been a week since you lost a 3-1 lead. You’re HOME. A champion and a Finals MVP saying his favorite season is the season he’s home in the FIRST ROUND. This is not about ME. It’s about YOU….and what YOU SAID. Enjoy your offseason.”
This isn’t Brown and Smith’s first public disagreement. In 2024, Smith shared on First Take comments from unnamed sources about the Celtics star. This drew the ire of Brown, who wanted Smith to name the sources and implied that the characterization of him wasn’t true. The two eventually had a sit-down conversation on Smith’s podcast and appeared to move past the issue.
