A surprise performer stole the show in the Gators’ spring game.

Zach Abolverdi of On3/Rivals revealed Tramell Jones edged out the projected starter Philo with his performance.

“All eyes were on Jones and Philo in The Swamp on Saturday, and both produced in the passing game — especially at the end of the first half. Of the two signal callers, Jones had the better day in the spring game,” Abolverdi wrote. “Philo threw two interceptions and Jones had none.”

But that’s not all involving the College Football Transfer Portal addition from Georgia Tech.

“Philo was sacked twice and Jones was the only scholarship quarterback not to take a sack,” Abolverdi wrote. “And, of course, Jones’ 75-yard TD throw stole the show.”

Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner claimed he became impressed with both, however.

“They both came in, did a really good job. It’s a body of work of everything that we’ve done the last 15 days. Today was just a small sample size of what I think both of them could be,” Faulkner said via On3/Rivals.

The outlet adds how Sumrall “is in no rush to name a starter” and likely needs August to make his decision.

“But Tramell Jones Jr. had the better day on Saturday,” Pete Nakos of On3/Rivals added.

Unlike Philo, Jones arrived via the College Football Recruiting trail for Florida. He’s one of the last Billy Napier recruits in signing with the 2025 class. He never dipped to the portal once the Gators named Sumrall head coach .
