Texas A&M's Taurean York names preferred NFL team at NFL combine

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko is, and should be, proud of his 2025 roster, which will send a nation-leading 13 players to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, including veteran star linebacker Taurean York , who led the Aggies in tackles last season and had been the program's starting middle linebacker since his freshman campaign.

Widely predicted as a 4th or 5th round pick in the draft, primarily due to 5'10" frame, the Temple, Texas native is more than capable of becoming a productive player for any NFL franchise needing a smart defender with SEC experience to develop in a system, and eventually earn a starting role down the line.

After 39 straight starts, while racking up 228 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception, and seven pass deflections, York's confidence is unsurprising given his recruiting background as one of the more undervalued prospects, especially after several programs close to home, including the Texas Longhorns , did not offer him out of high school.

On Wednesday, York took questions from the media during the final day of the combine before workouts began on Thursday, and was asked which franchise he prefers to play for, which TexAgs LIVE host David Nuño posted on X moments after York provided an answer:

Detroit , for sure. Dan Campbell is a Texas A&M guy. Grit is their identity—that’s what the ‘G’ stands for at A&M in G.R.I.N.D. A lot of similarities in how the programs are run. I like the Lions a lot.”

Outside of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans , it's no surprise that York sees the Detroit Lions as a preferred destination, given Dan Campbell, a former standout Texas A&M tight end, success in the league, while Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard 's scheme, built on relentless effort and football inteligence, might be the perfect fit for a player of York's caliber.

York, along with every other participating linebacker, defensive linemen, and place kickers, will work out during the first day of the NFL combine on Thursday, February 26.
