Two weeks into the 2026 free agency period, LeBron James is still without a team. However, the latest intel says the King James sweepstakes is down to three teams - the Cleveland Cavaliers , Miami Heat , and Golden State Warriors .
Cleveland is still considered the favorite to land LeBron, while Miami also has an edge because James played for the franchise before. But Fox Sports' Chris Broussard thinks the Golden State Warriors still have to go all in to pair the NBA's all-time leading scorer with his Paris Olympics teammate.
"I think they should go all-in to get LeBron, not because they will win the West. I think they'd really be a good team and have more than like a puncher's chance. But you know, I would not put them with San Antonio and OKC just yet. And there's the injuries that you have to worry about with all of them," the analyst said.
"But I would go all in if I'm the Warriors because they have Steph, and you have to maximize the Steph Curry window, whether you win championships or not," Broussard added.
The Dubs are just a play-in team
Like LeBron, time is running out on Steph Curry's legendary career . At 38, Curry has played 17 NBA seasons, and although he remains one of the best players in the league, the Warriors have finished in the play-in tournament in each of the last three seasons.
As Broussard said, adding LeBron and possibly even Anthony Davis will not necessarily make the Warriors legit championship contenders and won't put them in the same category as the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder . However, LeBron would most certainly give them a better chance than just a puncher's chance. And then, there's the other side of the ball. Money.
"This is also a business. If they get LeBron and they are arguably the biggest story, the circus of next season, it's something that we've never seen. They would be the darlings of the NBA. We've never had the two best players of an era team up. That'd be like Russell and Wilt, Magic and Bird, Shaq and Duncan, Kobe and LeBron. Never have we seen the absolute two. Just for the entertainment value, they would be a very good team, and if some other teams get banged up, who knows?" added Brou.
The Paris Olympics duo
Broussard said that one decade ago, we saw the No. 2 and No. 3 players of the current era team up when Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors and helped them win back-to-back titles. However, the Steph and LeBron duo would be unprecedented. Even Steph admitted it when he made a pitch to Bron while competing at the American Century Championship golf tournament.
"Up until probably two, three years ago, that was like a pipe-dream question or even a thought. But that's part of the allure. Him going into his 24th season, me going into my 18th, the battles we've had, that would be such a unique story in NBA history, in sports history," Curry said at a press conference. "But a little premature right now to talk about it."
For sure, the Cavaliers have the edge over the Heat and Warriors. But as Steph said, if LeBron wants good basketball and teammates who are good at it, Golden State should be good for him. Not to mention, there's good golf in The Bay, according to Steph. We'll see what LeBron thinks.
