Detroit Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal was in the middle of another strong effort on the mound in the seventh inning of Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers . A Blake Perkins ’ two-run double in the seventh led to the game being tied at 3-3. The hit also ended Skubal’s day on the mound. Skubal displayed frustration in the dugout, leading the broadcaster to make a “competitive” admission about the reigning American League Cy Young winner.
“He is one of the most competitive people on the planet,” the broadcaster said.
Another run ended up scoring in the inning, and that run was charged to Skubal. The Brewers lead the game 4-3 as of this story’s writing. Skubal ended up pitching six-plus innings while striking out five and allowing seven hits and four runs. It was not his best effort, and his reaction to giving up the big hit displayed his extreme competitiveness.
The Brewers are facing Skubal on Thursday and Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. The fact that they were able to get to Skubal on Thursday is impressive to say the least. There are not many teams who can say they have scored four runs against Skubal in recent seasons.
The Tigers have high expectations for the season . Detroit is currently just 13-12 overall, but the ball club is only a half-game behind the Cleveland Guardians for the lead in the American League Central division.
Tarik Skubal ’s teammates will look to pick him up and win the game against the Brewers on Thursday.
