Trevor Bauer has been clear: he wants to play in MLB again. The former Cy Young winner is currently pitching for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. Bauer recently threw a no-hitter , giving him another opprotunity to show he deserves another shot.
Now, he is speaking out about his relationship with the league and answering the question of whether he believes he has been blackballed , speaking with Dan Dakich of OutKick.
"I don't know exactly what goes on behind the scenes. I have my suspicions, of course. All I know is what the pattern is that we see. I can't tell you how many times, how many different teams we've talked to. They're like 'Oh yeah, it's done. We've talked to the front office, they're on board. The players are on board. We've talked to PR, they're on board. We've talked to ownership, they're on board. We've just got to get final approval. Keep your phone on, we're going to call you," Bauer started.
"Then, nothing happens for two or three days, and we get a call back saying, 'Hey, we can't really talk about this, but sorry, it's not going to work out. When that pattern happens over multiple different organizations over multiple different years… I think what I think."
Bauer was one of the top pitchers in the majors, winning the Cy Young in 2020. He was a free agent heading into the 2021 season and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers . The former all-star was 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 17 starts in 2021, when the pitcher was placed on administrative leave due to sexual assault allegations. He would never pitch in the majors again. Since then, Bauer has had stints in Japan with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars and in Mexico with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, plus his time with the Ducks.
"I still don't have a job. I'm not allowed to, I haven't been allowed to play baseball in MLB again. I've offered to play for free. I've offered to go to the minor league. I've offered to literally donate my entire salary back to the teams' foundations, to play for literally zero dollars," Bauer continued.
While Bauer may be willing to play for free, no one has given him the chance yet. Until then, Bauer will continue to pitch for the Ducks and wait for a chance in the majors.
