The Miami Dolphins will begin training camp down a pair of options in their starting cornerback competition.
The team announced Thursday cornerbacks Darrell Baker Jr. and Storm Duck are starting camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
Neither Duck, entering his third season, nor Baker, who was a free agent signing in March, participated in drills during the Dolphins' offseason organized team activities and minicamp.
Duck, who began last season as a starter, suffered a significant knee injury last October. He had been seen working out on the side of practices during OTAs and minicamp.
Baker's ailment is unknown, as he played all 17 games each of the past two seasons with the Tennessee Titans before signing with Miami.
"I wish they were coming along a bit quicker, but we'll have to wait and see," Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said in June at the Dolphins' final OTA session open to reporters.
Thursday's news of their placement on PUP, before veterans report for camp Tuesday and the team's first practice is held Wednesday, indicates Baker and Duck will continue to rehab their respective ailments and still won't be ready to practice.
Miami's options at the top of the cornerback depth chart include first-round pick Chris Johnson , returning cornerbacks JuJu Brents and Jason Marshall Jr. and free agent additions Marco Wilson and Alex Austin , among others. It's a widely unproven group that needs starters to emerge in camp.
