There was never going to be a world in which Brian Flores was considered by every team for their head coaching opportunities. Then again, that’s probably to their own detriment. The Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator has proven to be an elite football mind , and the hope would be he’s grown some since his days in Miami .

It has been expected that Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders would come calling . That represents a sensible reunion of former New England Patriots . However, the first time to engage Flores happens to be the Baltimore Ravens .

Baltimore Ravens schedule MN Vikings Brian Flores interview

Last offseason Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores had a hectic interview schedule . This offseason the engagement has been slower, but the Baltimore Ravens now represent suitor number one.

After 18 years leading the Baltimore Ravens, John Harbaugh is out. The 2012 Super Bowl-winning coach oversaw a 13-win team in 2023, and a 12-win squad in 2024. Unfortunately an 8-9 team that lost a playoff-deciding Week 18 game against the Aaron Rodgers Pittsburgh Steelers cost him his job.

Flores would seemingly have a different perspective than Harbaugh. What his exact demeanor looks like is uncertain after working behind the scenes for a while. However he is an elite defensive mind, and coming from the Bill Belichick coaching tree, it’s expected that his demand for excellence remains high.

In three years leading the Miami Dolphins he coached 49 games and went 24-25 . The 2020 team went 10-6 and represented the high-water mark for his coaching tenure.

Flores would bring a high caliber defensive record to Baltimore. With the MN Vikings he has consistently produced one of the top units in the league. He’d also have the benefit of a franchise quarterback already in place with Lamar Jackson remaining.

MN Vikings might need a backfill

With Flores garnering an interview that isn’t with the Raiders, it may be prudent for the Minnesota Vikings to start considering a backfill. He’s probably going to land at least one other interview, and he’s probably not a candidate that needs too many in order to land something.

Kevin O’Connell has been praised as the elite offensive mind, even rending his offensive coordinator relatively useless. Flores has handled all of the defensive happenings and the MN Vikings would then need to lean on someone else.

Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon worked with the Vikings defense from 2014-2017 and eventually became the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator . That would be a good place to start.
