- Vikings Offseason Chatter, Greenard Trade Rumors Heating Up

The start to the Minnesota Vikings offseason, in terms of their player personnel plans, has been way more smoke than fire. We thought the NFL negotiating window would spur action, but it's nearly over and all our favorite football team has to show for it is a third-string cornerback signing.

Beyond that, the Vikings have restructured / extended some veteran contracts, cut others , lost a couple more , slapped tenders on young players they didn't want to lose and re-signed a handful of other depth pieces. But outside of those procedural moves, the Vikings have been eerily quiet.
Minnesota Vikings offseason expected to heat up
According to local insiders, however, that's likely to change today. Some of the reasons are more obvious. The league year begins at 3 p.m. CDT. That's when they are expected to cut Aaron Jones , Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave .

However, Ben Goessling (Star Tribune) seems to expect more than just procedural actions from Rob Brzezinski & Co. today, pointing to needs at center, running back, defensive line, puter and (possibly) safety that we could see filled Wednesday afternoon/evening.
It's been a second quiet night for the Vikings during the NFL's negotiating window, though there's reason to believe things will pick up when the new league year begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The Vikings still need to add players at center and running back, and could look for defensive line depth after releasing Allen and Hargrave. The Vikings also need a punter after Ryan Wright's departure, and the safety position could be a topic of conversation this week given Harrison Smith's status.
Even if 2026 isn't as active in free agency as 2025 was for the Vikings, Wednesday figures to be busier for the team than the past two days have been.
Kyler Murray release happening Wednesday
Yes, I buried the lead… but not that far down. The most anticipated move of the Minnesota Vikings offseason is expected today too. But it's not the Vikings who will be making it.

It could happen at any moment, but the Arizona Cardinals will release Kyler Murray at some point before the league year turns over at 3 p.m. CDT.
As we wrote about yesterday , Minnesota remains the favorite to sign Murray, but he is expected to flirt around first, something that was reiterated again this morning by Ian Rapoport (NFL Network) .

The other top storyline of the Minnesota Vikings offseason, so far, has been the trade rumors surrounding 2024 Pro Bowl EDGE rusher Jonathan Greenard .
Jonathan Greenard trade incoming…?
Per multiple reports — including Alec Lewis (The Athletic) in his latest episode of the Alec Lewis Show — the Vikings do not want to trade Greenard. Problem is, he wants more than the $19 million he is due to make in 2026, and the Vikings do not want to pay him beyond what the 28-year-old agreed to previously.

Thus, a trade is more likely than not, especially given how desperate teams are for high-end pass rushers. Lewis had his antennas up on the Greenard situation last night. After Trey Hendrickson signed with Baltimore this morning, his anticipation on a Jonathan Greenard blockbuster has only gone up.
NFL insider Evan Sidery lists the Colts , Cowboys, Eagles and Seahawks as teams likely to be "in the mix" for Greenard. The price tag, as previously reported, is said to be a day two draft pick.
Definitely worth watching Vikings edge Jonathan Greenard with Trey Hendrickson off the board. Multiple NFC teams have been in the market for edge rushers. Vikings haven't wanted to trade Greenard unless they get a premium return that meets their price tag.

With Trey Hendrickson now off the board, teams who were pursuing him now plan to pivot towards a trade for Jonathan Greenard.

After the Maxx Crosby trade fell through on Tuesday afternoon, and Baltimore turned around to sign Trey Hendrickson Wednesday morning, it feels like a Greenard deal is imminent.

Unless the Raiders find a new deal for Crosby ( which is very much up in the air ) it's possible there could be one less elite EDGE on the market for teams to choose from, making Greenard that much more valuable, especially with the start of free agency closing in this afternoon.
I'd imagine that is what insiders like Alec Lewis and Evan Sidery are feeling/hearing behind the scenes today.
