One of the biggest questions for the Golden State Warriors as their 2026 offseason continues is what the future holds for head coach Steve Kerr . Kerr admitted that he was uncertain about whether or not he would return next season in the aftermath of Golden State's second play-in loss in three years.
However, the latest reporting from ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel would seem to indicate that things are looking optimistic for those hoping that Kerr stays put in the Bay Area.
"Steve Kerr and the Warriors will continue their meetings this afternoon. Sources told @ClutchPoints that the internal feel after last week's meetings were positive. There are still hurdles to cross this week, but the chances of Kerr returning has grown," reported Siegel on X, formerly Twitter.
There's no doubting Kerr's legendary success as a head coach for the Warriors, helping guide the team to four NBA championships, including one in his first year at the helm 11 seasons ago, and establishing Golden State as the modern blueprint for an NBA dynasty.
However, over the last few years, things have started to wind down in Golden State, with the team finding itself unable to balance giving its older veterans their due while trying to build something for the future.
This has at times led to growing angst among the fanbase regarding Kerr, with some wanting the Warriors' brass to implement a new voice for the twilight years of Stephen Curry 's career.
However, if Kerr does end up returning for another season, it would give the Warriors another chance to try to wring more out of the Curry era with a familiar face around, and Golden State does have some resources and spending money at their disposal this offseason.
In any case, it seems that an answer on the Kerr front could be coming soon.
