The Chicago White Sox signed outfielder Jarred Kelenic to a contract this past offseason. The White Sox ended up giving Kelenic an MLB opportunity , but the 26-year-old hit just .226/.305/.321 across 19 games played with the ball club. On Monday, the White Sox designated the former New York Mets and Seattle Mariners top prospect for assignment.

Chicago selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Kelenic was acquired by the Mariners as a top prospect in the deal that saw Edwin Diaz and Robinson Cano end up with the Mets. He made his MLB debut in 2021 but struggled overall. He would play in Seattle from 2021 through the 2023 campaign. Kelenic then spent 2024 and 2025 with the Atlanta Braves before landing with the White Sox in 2026.
It remains to be seen what Kelenic's next chapter in his career will be. The fact of the matter is that he is only 26 years old and there was a time when he displayed tremendous potential. Teams will likely still be interested in Kelenic given his ceiling.
He has yet to find a rhythm at the MLB level, however. Ball clubs understand that Kelenic may not reach his early-career lofty expectations. With that being said, the idea of Kelenic at least becoming a reliable MLB player is still realistic.

As for the White Sox, they will bring their 26-26 record into Monday's matchup with the Minnesota Twins. First pitch for the ball game between the American League Central rivals is scheduled for 2:10 PM EST in Chicago.
