Chicago White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami is having an incredible start to his MLB career after hitting his 13th home run of the season in Friday’s 8-2 win over the San Diego Padres . With Murakami leading the league in home runs right now, the Japanese native also achieved an historic feat after recording his 13th dinger of the campaign.

Murakami, who is 26 years old, is now tied for the third-most home runs recorded in the first 32 games of his career in league history, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com. The only two players who have ever hit more home runs in that stretch are Rhys Hoskins and Aristides Aquino .

“Murakami’s three-run blast broke a tie with the Yankees Aaron Judge and the Astros Yordan Alvarez for the MLB lead. His 13 homers are third-most for a player in his first 32 career games, behind only 2017 Rhys Hoskins (16) and 2018-19 Aristides Aquino (14),” said Merkin.

From April 17 to April 22, Munetaka Murakami recorded a home run in five consecutive games. He’s been a home run machine for the White Sox whenever he makes contact with the ball, and is capable of drawing walks, making him an incredible addition to Chicago’s lineup.

Through 113 at-bats so far this season, Murakami has recorded 27 hits, a league-high 13 home runs, and 26 RBIs, giving him a .239 batting average and a .383 OBP. He’s also generated 27 walks despite striking out 46 times this year.
