The Chicago White Sox shook up their roster on Monday, calling up prospect Rikuu Nishida. It didn't take long for him to make his presence known against the Minnesota Twins.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Nishida hit a dribbler towards second base . It managed to squeak by Luke Keaschall and get into the outfield for the 25-year-old's first MLB hit.
Nishida's highlights from his MLB debut didn't stop there. Alex Jackson lined a ball into right field with a runner on second base. While the Twins tried to send that runner home, Nishida cut them off with a throw to the plate .
Defense is one of Nishida's best attributes, specifically his versatility. He is capable of playing any outfield position as well as second base. The fact Will Venable can move him around the field makes the newest South Sider even more valuable to the organization.

Nishida hasn't been a slouch at the plate either throughout the 2026 season. Over 44 games between Double and Triple-A, he is hitting .323 with a home run, 12 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. He was on fire during his 33-game stint in Triple-A, batting .347 with a home run, 10 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
The utilityman will need to consistently prove himself at the major league level to keep his spot on the White Sox. But so-far-so-good for Nishida. Whenever a ball is hit to him in the outfield, runners may be a bit more cautious on trying to take an extra base. Infielders must be prepared for a slow roller coming their way as well.
