The St. Louis Cardinals were defeated 5-3 by the Miami Marlins on Monday. Cardinals starting pitcher Michael McGreevy allowed four earned runs across 5.2 innings of work on the mound. He added three strikeouts but did walk two batters. While it was a rather mediocre start overall, Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol was encouraged by the outing .
“McGreevy did a nice job,” Marmol said, via MLB.com. “Especially, you got six lefties in there (Marlins lineup), I thought he navigated them well. First time through, got ahead of a lot of guys. Kept them on the ground. Third time through, fell behind several of them and that costed him… At the end of the day I thought he gave us a good look.”
McGreevy, 25, has pitched well so far in the 2026 season. The right-handed hurler has recorded a 3.29 ERA across five starts. He was not at his best on Monday, but McGreevy still gave the Cardinals an opportunity to win. The ball club fell short in the end, however.
The Cardinals have endured some difficult moments , but they are 13-9 overall. Players such as Jordan Walker have stepped up in 2026 . St. Louis is not expected to compete for a playoff spot this year, but anything could end up happening. The Cardinals are hoping to surprise the MLB world.
St. Louis will play the second of a three-game series in Miami against the Marlins on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in what should be another competitive contest between the National League ball clubs.
