Liverpool were left frustrated after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Wolves , but the match also highlighted the influence of one player who once dreamed of playing at Anfield.
Joao Gomes delivered a tireless display in midfield at Molineux, helping Wolves disrupt Liverpool's rhythm and compete physically throughout the contest.
The Brazilian's performance served as a reminder that Liverpool once had the chance to sign him before Wolves secured his arrival from Flamengo in January 2023.

Before his move to the Premier League, Gomes openly admitted that playing for Liverpool was a possibility that really excited him.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil in 2022, the midfielder said: "Competing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football, mine and my family's. Liverpool are a team where I would love to play. I have the greatest desire to play [for Liverpool]."
But it was Wolves who ended up signing the midfielder from Flamengo, bringing him to Molineux at the start of 2023.
Against Liverpool on Tuesday, Gomes produced an impressive all-round performance in midfield. According to Squawka, the 23-year-old completed six tackles, had four successful take-ons and also won 14 duels.
Since arriving, Gomes' performances in the Premier League have begun to attract interest from other clubs across Europe.
Reports in Italy from Italian journalist Nicolo Schira (via Il Napolista ) claim Napoli are continuing to monitor the midfielder and have already held meetings with his representatives.
Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the Wolves star as they assess potential midfield reinforcements.
With his reputation continuing to grow, Gomes' display against Liverpool may have been another reminder of the opportunity the Reds let slip three years ago.
