On Thursday afternoon, the New York Yankees hit the field at home for their series finale against the Cleveland Guardians . The Yankees played this one without Aaron Judge , who is currently out of the lineup as he deals with some bruising to his ribcage area.
The Yankees fans in attendance on Thursday got to see some fireworks early in this game when New York outfielder Max Schuemann made an electric diving catch in order to retire the Guardians in the top of the second inning.
Schuemann has had a knack for making some athletic plays on defense over the course of the season, and the diving catch denied Cleveland to potentially strike first early in this game.
The Yankees are currently trying to weather the storm in the absence of Judge, who thankfully doesn't appear to be dealing with anything too serious on the injury front.
Meanwhile, New York has also been without veteran star Giancarlo Stanton for the majority of this season due to a calf injury, and they've shown impressive resilience to still sit 11 games over .500 despite the absence.
The Yankees are currently tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the most wins in both the AL East and the AL as a whole. Helping New York's cause this year is the fact that there don't appear to be any true juggernauts in the league this year, as most of the MLB's best teams play in the NL.
In any case, following the conclusion of Thursday's game against the Guardians, the Yankees will next take the field on Friday evening for the beginning of a home series against the rival Boston Red Sox .
