Yankees' Cody Bellinger vows to 'pick it up' with Aaron Judge out appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The New York Yankees are facing some imminent uncertainty after Aaron Judge missed their 9-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night due to an injury. Judge, according to reports, is dealing with a bone bruise in his ribs on the right side, and this is causing a bit of discomfort in his shoulder. While Judge will be undergoing more tests, there's chance that he needs an extended stint on the sidelines to fully recuperate.
Judge is as influential of a member of the Yankees' lineup as it can get. Despite currently sporting a career-low .248 batting average (over a full season), he continues to be a reliable source of power and on-base production — sporting a .908 OPS at present. He'll be a major missing piece for New York as they look to keep in step with the Tampa Bay Rays for AL East supremacy, especially if he needs to hit the 10-day injured list.
But for his outfield partner Cody Bellinger , this is the opportunity for the Yankees to pick up the slack and hold down the fort should Judge need to miss some time.
"Huge loss in the lineup and we all gotta pick it up around him," Bellinger said. "We all got to come out tomorrow and get ready to play."
Bellinger, for his part, went 2-5 as the three-hole hitter for the Yankees during their loss to the Guardians on Tuesday. The Yankees' top hitters are holding their end of the bargain; Ben Rice has been on a tear this season, while Paul Goldschmidt went berserk on Tuesday, going 3-5 with four RBIs.
It's the rest of the Yankees lineup that needs to swing with more conviction. The likes of Jazz Chisholm Jr. , Anthony Volpe , Amed Rosario , and Jose Caballero, just to name a few, have to be more productive. Chisholm, in particular, will have to round into form if he were to make good on his promise on the Tonight Show.
