The New York Yankees are in the midst of a prolonged slump. Things got even worse on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins .
The Yankees fell 6-1, losing the series overall and officially dropping nine of their last 10 games. New York hadn't lost a series to Minnesota in Yankee Stadium since 2014, via Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Making matters worse, the Twins were 7-29 in New York since 2014 and 19-69 since 2002. All of the historical data backed the Yankees in the series. But nevertheless, instead, the franchise continued their downward trend.
On Sunday, the Yankees were held scoreless until the ninth inning. With their only run coming on a double play, it was far too little to forge a comeback. Starting pitcher Ryan Weathers lasted just four inning, allowing six hits and four runs, although he did strike out six.
New York is still 49-40 on the season. They still hold a four game lead over any other Wild Card contender. Furthermore, the team is currently dealing with a litany of injuries to key players such as Aaron Judge and Max Fried . Still, their last 10 games haven't painted the franchise in the prettiest of lights.
Especially due to the level of competition the Yankees have been facing. The Twins are just 44-47 on the season. They were previously swept by the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox , who sit at 39-50 and 39-48 respectively.
The Yankees did manage to take a game off the Twins , so the series wasn't technically a complete failure. But even with their current record, New York needs to find their footing in a hurry.
