The New York Yankees have performed well so far during the 2026 MLB season. Aaron Judge is swinging the bat well once again, while Ben Rice has become a star . One player who has also performed well but is not receiving as much recognition this year is Cody Bellinger .
Bellinger is currently hitting .274/.379/.484 across 53 games played. He has recorded seven home runs, 13 doubles and three triples. Additionally, the Yankees star has stolen five bases.
Judge has 17 home runs while Rice has 16 long balls. The MLB world knows the Bronx Bombers love their homers. From Babe Ruth and beyond, home runs have often been a staple of Yankees stars. Perhaps the fact that Bellinger only has seven long balls so far in 2026 has played a role in his performance being overlooked.
Yankees’ Cody Bellinger deserves more respect

His 13 doubles leads the Yankees, though. Bellinger’s three triples also is the best on the team. There is a reason he is still slugging .484 despite only having seven homers so far. In all reality, seven home runs in May is not bad for a power hitter. Bellinger just happens to play on the same team as the best home run hitter in the game and one of baseball’s up and coming stars.
Bellinger returned to the Yankees this past offseason and the decision has benefitted both the player and the team. The former MVP will likely earn an All-Star selection while competing for a ball club with serious World Series aspirations.
Nevertheless, Cody Bellinger ’s impressive performance has been overlooked so far this season. He deserves more respect.
