The Houston Astros are hoping for big things each game from designated hitter Yordan Alvarez . Alvarez got smoked on Sunday by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski . A Misiorowski pitch during an Alvarez at-bat clocked 103 miles per hour, which came on a four-seam fastball.
Alvarez struck out swinging during that plate appearance. That heat blew the mind of at least one Major League Baseball insider.
"Good God," The Athletic's Chandler Rome posted to X, formerly Twitter, following that strikeout.
Even though Alvarez wasn't having any success against the Brewers starting pitcher, one of his teammates did.
" Isaac Paredes ' one-out double in the fourth is the first extra-base hit Jacob Misiorowski has allowed in a span of seven starts. It's also Paredes' 500th career hit," the Houston Chronicle posted.
Misiorowski is having a great season for the Brewers . He has five victories, with an ERA under 2.00. His Brewers club leads the National League Central this season. Milwaukee has a 34-21 record entering Sunday's game.
Alvarez and the Astros meanwhile are struggling. Houston has a 27-33 record entering Sunday's game. The Astros though have won seven of their last 10 contests.
Alvarez has been hitting well as of late.
"Alvarez slugged five home runs in the first three games of the series at Texas , making him the fastest in club history to reach 20 homers (57 team games), He's on his way to one of the most prolific offensive seasons in club history, if he can stay healthy," MLB.com reported recently.
Former Astros player Lance Berkman is quite impressed with Alvarez.
"He's one of the best pure hitters in the game. I honestly haven't watched him a lot, but just what I've seen of him he's got that rare combination of the ability to hit for power and to hit for average. It seems like in today's game guys are hitting .230 with 30 home runs, but I'm always impressed with the guys that can [hit] for average and home runs," Berkman said.
The Astros and Brewers continue to play Sunday at time of writing.
